Director of Payroll

What we expect
As the Director of Payroll, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our payroll operations, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. You will lead a team of payroll professionals and collaborate with Human Resources, Finance, and other departments to optimize payroll processes and drive continuous improvement. Your exceptional leadership, communication, and analytical skills will be pivotal in driving the success of our payroll department.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement payroll policies, procedures, and controls to ensure accurate and timely processing of all payrolls
- Manage the payroll team, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback
- Ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws, employment regulations, collective bargaining agreements, and reporting requirements
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, and IT departments to optimize payroll processes and systems
- Oversee the reconciliation and auditing of payroll data, identifying and resolving discrepancies
- Manage relationships with external vendors, including payroll service providers and tax agencies
- Develop and maintain comprehensive payroll reports and metrics for senior management and stakeholders
- Stay current on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes, and implement necessary updates to payroll processes and systems
- Participate in special projects and initiatives as needed
Who we are looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or a related field; CPP certification is a plus
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements
- Proficiency in payroll software and systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, or similar)
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality
